Song Banners and Backgrounds

Important

If you're editing song files outside of StepMania or changing song graphics, be sure to turn "Options -> Other Options -> FastLoad" to OFF. This will ensure that StepMania checks for and uses your changes the next time it is run.

Background

Place a 640x480 png or jpg in the song directory, and StepMania will use it as the background. Name the file "<SongTitle>-bg.png" (for example, if your song is called "Lost", it would be "Lost-bg.png".

Banner

Banners are typically either 256x80 or 418x164. Create a file of this size and place it in the song directory, and StepMania will use it as the banner. Name the file "<SongTitle>-banner.png" (for example, if your song is called "Lost", it would be "Lost-banner.png".

Movie background

If you make 1 AVI movie and put it in the song's folder along with the .sm file, the game will play back the AVI movie during the music.

If you need the video to be in sync with the music, you can either:

• Insert or remove silence at the beginning of the MP3 to shift the music into sync.
• Manually specify when the movie should start using the StepMania editor. Go to the editor, open the song, and insert a "background change" into the song (press 'B'), then choose the song's background movie from the "song movies" section of the background change screen.
